Terra Lawson Remer Vows to Shut Down All Crisis Pregnancy Centers

“I’m bringing forward a proposal to shut down crisis pregnancy centers,” the pro-abortion supervisor said.

San Diego County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer, a Democrat, has recently come under scrutiny for her aggressive campaign aimed at shutting down crisis pregnancy centers within San Diego County. These centers, hailed by many for their invaluable support to women grappling with unplanned pregnancies, find themselves in the crosshairs of Lawson-Remer’s decidedly pro-abortion agenda.

The unfolding drama began in September 2023, when California State Attorney General Rob Bonta initiated legal action against two crisis pregnancy centers in an effort to discourage women from seeking abortions. While these centers have faced accusations of being controversial, supporters argue that they are indispensable, offering alternative perspectives and support to vulnerable women.

San Diego County has an estimated 16 pregnancy crisis centers, with Lawson-Remer unfairly claiming they are “fraudulent,” but failed to provide evidence to support her claims.

Lawson-Remer is also pushing for the Board of Supervisors to strengthen state programs created after the landmark Roe v. Wade decision was overturned last year.

Her recommendations include pursuing legal action with the potential to shut down these centers and launching an aggressive public education campaign through billboards and social media. The campaign seeks to undermine crisis pregnancy centers while promoting services under California Senate Bill (SB) 245 and Medi-Cal.

Conservative voices have pushed back strongly against Lawson-Remer’s proposals, underscoring the essential work carried out by these centers. They argue that her single-minded pro-abortion stance neglects the importance of providing a spectrum of choices and supportive services to expectant mothers.

The proposed plan, if greenlit, would incur an estimated cost of $500,000, utilizing funds from the existing one-time General Purpose Revenue.

In the face of Lawson-Remer’s crusade, a growing number of community members and crisis center supporters are rallying to protect the crisis pregnancy centers, highlighting their critical role in offering compassionate assistance and alternatives to women in need.
