Fletcher’s approach has local business owners upset after an explicit social media response to his constituents.
San Diego County Board of Supervisors Nathan Fletcher recently took criticism from business owners and constituents on his stance on requirements for businesses, and for a recent social media post. Business owners argued they did not believe people need to implement additional requirements as a condition of service or employment.
“A lot of people are so discouraged because their voices are not being heard,” Alondra Ruiz, owner of The Village SD, said. “People are being censored on social media.”
Some business owners spoke out about the regulations outside a San Diego Board of Supervisors meeting. They then went inside to give speeches asking the board to drop the business mandates.
After the meeting, Fletcher was slammed by constituents for his response in a social media post.
Fletcher’s social media post read, “you didn’t research anything and its highly probable that you don’t even know how to do so.” Concluding, “No? Then you didn’t f***ing research anything. You read or watched a video, most likely with little to no objectivity. You came across something in your algorithm manipulated feed, something that jived with your implicit biases and served your confirmation bias, and subconsciously applied your emotional filters and called it proof. Scary.”
A local business owner told KUSI News the criticism was “well deserved”. The business owner also said it is difficult to be sympathetic toward Fletcher and the criticism surrounding him because Fletcher “constantly puts himself out there in that way.”
