Fatal Hit-and-Run in National City: Suspect Arrested After Woman’s Death

Authorities apprehend a man linked to a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of a 54-year-old woman.

A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in National City, where a 54-year-old woman lost her life after being struck by a vehicle and left unresponsive in the roadway, police said.

The incident occurred late Thursday night near the intersection of East 8th Street and D Avenue. Officers responding to reports of a pedestrian in the street discovered the woman unconscious. Despite immediate medical attention, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities launched an investigation, reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses. Within hours, they identified and located the suspect, whose identity has not yet been released. Police took the man into custody on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.

“This was a tragic event, and we appreciate the community’s help in providing information that led to an arrest,” said a spokesperson for the National City Police Department. “We will continue to investigate and ensure justice is served.”

The victim’s name has not been publicly disclosed, pending notification of next of kin. Investigators are urging anyone with additional details about the incident to come forward.

The suspect is expected to face formal charges in the coming days.
