Investigators Grapple with the Puzzling Case of Mary Margaret Haxby-Jones.
In a chilling revelation that has shaken the Allied Gardens community, the body of 81-year-old Mary Margaret Haxby-Jones was discovered inside a chest freezer at a residence on Zion Avenue in December 2023. This unsettling discovery, made by visiting family members, has prompted a complex investigation by the San Diego Police Department (SDPD).
Mary Margaret Haxby-Jones, believed to have once lived at the home where her body was found, could have been deceased for as long as nine years, according to police investigations. The absence of a missing person’s report for Haxby-Jones adds a layer of mystery to this already perplexing case, as noted by Lt. Jud Campbell of the SDPD.
The shocking discovery was made on December 22 when family members, who were visiting relatives residing at the 4900 block of Zion Avenue, stumbled upon the body in an operational freezer. They promptly alerted the SDPD, and officers from the Eastern Division were swiftly dispatched to the scene.
Due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the discovery of Haxby-Jones’s body, the SDPD’s Homicide Unit has taken charge of the investigation. As of now, the Medical Examiner’s Office is engaged in a thorough examination to ascertain the cause of death. Initial observations revealed no apparent signs of trauma on the body.
